TGIF

Alex is now 3 months old and I am waiting for the growth spurt they say usually happens around this time. As of now everything remains the same. He is starting to talk a lot more, but is still a relatively quiet baby. He has discovered his hands and spends a lot of time staring at them and waving them around. I see him in the car seat when we are driving just mesmerized with his hands, it is quite funny to watch.

Sunshine at last!

We have been enjoying a few days of sunshine, so I thought Alex was in need of some cool shades. Whenever I am driving the sun always seems to find him (even with those shades up on the window) so the sunglasses were a nice fix and he doesn't seem to mind wearing them.

Tomorrow is his 3 month birthday and the time has just flown by. I still have one month off of work but I am already dreading his first day of daycare. We went for a visit on Friday, and while it was perfectly nice, it just made me sad. I am going to miss too many smiles and laughs, which he did for the first time this weekend. Not to mention that I am really starting to enjoy not working.

On a non-Alex note, we are thankful that Rob survived the layoffs last week. Last Thursday they let go of several Starbucks corporate employees, including a few in Rob's group. It would be just our luck that Rob loses his job and with that we lose our spot in the daycare, but all is well and he is still employed.

Nothing new

I don't have anything new and exciting to report, so here are some cute pictures.

Sleepy Head

After two great nights of sleeping Alex is back to his regular routine of waking up in the middle of the night. He made it last night until 3 AM, which wasn't too bad. Today we had a lazy day of hanging out at the house. He rolled over again today and then I grabbed my camera to take a video of it and he refused to roll over.

When Rob got home he read Alex a book, which as you can see from the picture above, Alex was totally into it. Bath time was from last night. Rob threw the towel over him so we wouldn't embarrass him too much by posting this picture.

Rolling right along

Alex had a very big weekend. He rolled over from his stomach to his back for the first time. Sadly the very first time he did it happened to be one of maybe 4 times I had been away from him (Rob and I were grocery shopping while the grandparents watched him). Thankfully he performed for us when we returned. The other big moments this weekend was when Alex slept 8 hours at night, not once but twice. Of course I still woke up when he usually awoke wondering if he was o.k., but I eventually fell back asleep until 5:30 when he woke up.

He had a very good time with his grandparents this weekend and had fun at Hannah's princess party. Today he is a little cranky but that is to be expected since he worked so hard yesterday.

Trip to Portland

Alex and I had a great trip to Portland. As you can see from the picture above, he is taking the bottle from anyone now (even my dad), which is really great. He got to meet lots of new people and had another exciting trip to Cannon Beach. I couldn't ask for a better travel partner. He sleeps in the car and is great when we go out to restaurants. If he isn't sleeping in the car seat he is just hanging out exploring all the sights around him.

We have been keeping very busy with all the mommy and me groups and various outings to the movies and shopping. It is sad to think that my time off work is winding down because I am just starting to have a lot of fun with him. He smiles all of the time and makes funny noises.

Superbowl

Sorry it took so long to get this post up about the superbowl. Alex thoroughly enjoyed his first superbowl party. He got to hang out with his buddy George and a few drunk guys. All in all it was a big success. Now Alex and I are in Portland for a few days to hang out with the grandparents. Rob is all alone in Seattle, whatever will he do.

Poor Sampson

I feel that Sampson has been seriously neglected in our blog posts (yes, I realize people don't come to the blog to read about Sampson) but I have to dedicate this one to him. Sampson has been doing great since the arrival of Alex. Occasionally he will give Alex a kiss but for the most part he leaves him alone. He is, however, interested in anything Alex has touched. He has destroyed the mobile above the portable crib as well as the mobile that was attached to the swing and the other day he ate a pacifier. I think he just likes things that smell like Alex.

Tough Life

As you can see from the picture above, Alex has a real tough life. In between his many naps he takes during the day he spends a few hours eating and a few hours staring at me or sitting in his bouncer, which is his favorite activity. Today was a real boring day for Alex and mom, particularly because mom was just being lazy and didn't want to leave the house.

We are hosting a super bowl party at our house so I spent all day thinking about all the food I wanted to make, but in the end I know I will end up running to the store and buying pre-made food. Although Alex does sleep a lot it tends to not be in long stretches, so cooking anything that takes a lot of preparation is not that easy. I made a 30-minute meal the other day from Rachel Ray's cookbook and I think it took me about an hour and a half when all was said and done. Oh well, we still have plenty of things in our freezer that don't require much effort.
